Summer Grind Series: Lockdown Defender Camp
Drop off: 9am
Pick up: 3pm
Ages: 1st – 8th
Description:
It’s not the most glamorous part of the game but every coach needs their players to be tough defenders in a zone defense and in man on man situations. Players will learn proper defensive stance, positioning, and court awareness on the defensive end as well as how to identify weaknesses in the opponent they are guarding, how to force them to one side (towards the help), anticipating passes, how to steal the ball without fouling, and how to take a charge.
Training Focuses:
· Defensive Fundamentals: Players will learn footwork, hand/body positioning as well as the importance of an athletic stance, active hands, balance, and timing.
· Individual/Team Defense: Players will learn individual defensive skills such as on ball defense, closeouts, denials, defensive slides, how to take a charge and how stay between the offensive player and the basket. They will also learn team defensive concepts like defensive rotations, help side defense, the importance of communication on defense, and how to play transition defense.
· Defensive IQ: By the end of camp players will be able to read offensive players and identify tendencies such as: one hand dominate players, weak ball handlers and know the difference between slashers and shooters.
· Competition: during the last few days off camp, players will be competing in a king/queen of the hill type defensive contest with a chance to win prizes.
