Description:
Pick & Rolls and Screens are important tools in every players toolbox. When done correctly, a Pick & Roll forces the defense to make decisions and often time results in mismatches. Screens are a very effective way to create scoring opportunities for the offensive player. Through a series of drills throughout the week players will learn how to properly set screens and come off the screen ready to score or find the open man.
Training Focuses:
· Pick & Roll fundamentals: Body position is the most important part of setting screens. We will focus on how the player setting the screen should be in a strong athletic stance, while the ball handler should be low and ready to attack the basket.
· Reading the defense: After the ball handler comes off the screen it is important to identify the options that they have. We will have drills tailored to different scoring options like shooting off the screen, driving to the basket and finishing, making a dump pass to the player setting the screen, drive and kick, and more.
· Pick and roll IQ: Players will learn different terminology such as: off ball screen, back screen, and flair screen. They will also learn when to use the different types of screens to create scoring opportunities or find the open man.
· Competition: Players will get the chance to put their skills and knowledge to use in various 2v2 and 3v3 situations.
